Group Therapy

At Mindset LA, we reimagine group therapy by combining psychoanalytic insights and modern tools. Instead of relying on therapists as "all-knowing" authorities, we create a collaborative environment where clients and therapists learn together. We strive to move beyond traditional models of therapy and learning, creating a space where clients actively participate in their own growth, supported by a community of peers and therapists who function as both guides and participants in the process.

We focus on experiential learning, helping clients move beyond just receiving advice to actively engaging with challenges, building self-awareness, and taking meaningful action. Through a collaborative group dynamic, we provide a supportive space for clients to explore emotions, embrace uncertainty, and align actions with their values.

Our group sessions emphasize values-based action and mindfulness as pathways to greater psychological flexibility and emotional resilience. This creates a foundation to guide discussions and help participants co-create meaning, offering not just individual growth but also mutual support. By moving from dependence on therapists to shared responsibility, clients develop lasting skills for navigating life with confidence and purpose.

The modalities we use:

  • Identify and challenge negative thought patterns (CBT).

  • Process unconscious conflicts that drive self-sabotage (Psychoanalysis).

  • Release physical tension associated with emotional distress (Somatic therapy).

  • Increase psychological flexibility to make life-affirming decisions even in difficult situations (ACT).

our different groups

At Mindset LA, the group experiences are designed to foster growth, insight, and collaboration, creating a space for participants to engage in transformative healing and personal development. Here are three key types of group experiences you can expect:

  • In somatic groups, participants focus on integrating mind-body practices to release physical tension and emotional distress. These sessions include activities such as breath work, gentle movement, and guided body awareness exercises, helping individuals reconnect with their physical sensations. By becoming more attuned to how emotions manifest in the body, participants learn to regulate stress and develop healthier coping strategies. These groups are designed to create a safe space where individuals can explore and release deep-seated emotional patterns that are often held in the body, leading to greater emotional freedom and awareness.

  • Process groups are designed to facilitate interpersonal exploration and deep reflection within a supportive, therapeutic community. In these groups, participants engage in open dialogue, sharing experiences, insights, and reflections with one another. The focus is on processing unconscious conflicts, transference, and emotional material that may be impacting relationships and personal growth. Guided by trained facilitators, process groups provide a platform for exploring interpersonal dynamics, offering opportunities for individuals to gain awareness of patterns in their relationships and behaviors. Through mutual reflection and feedback, participants deepen their self-awareness and gain insight into the emotional undercurrents that influence their decisions and interactions.

  • In the Mindset groups, ACT Matrix, Peer Accountability, & Values-Based Committed Action are used.

Mindset groups focus on the principles of the ACT Matrix and encourage peer accountability and collaboration. In these groups, participants map their thoughts, emotions, values, and behaviors using the ACT Matrix, gaining clarity on their life direction and developing psychological flexibility. Group members support one another in identifying and defusing negative thought patterns, strengthening their ability to make values-based decisions even in challenging situations. The emphasis is on informal mindfulness practices—developing awareness in the present moment to make conscious, life-affirming choices. Peer accountability plays a central role in these groups, as participants hold each other accountable for making committed actions based on their values, fostering a sense of community and mutual support. Through collaboration, individuals create lasting change and reinforce their commitment to personal growth.
